Responding to God's call: A blessed experience

Sometimes God will call on you to help a friend when you least expect it.

I own a small restaurant in the Texas Panhandle.

One morning while preparing the vegetables for lunch, a bible verse and a friend's name popped into my mind.

It was fast. I find it strange to have that experience.

I kept on cutting some onions. "It was just a random thought," I said to myself.

As I was working that day, that same scripture kept coming back to my head. My friend's name too.

"I am not going to call her; she has spent more time in Bible study than I do," I whispered.

After an hour of battling my thoughts, I decided to give her a call.

I started our conversation with the usual hi and hello. Then I finally got the chance to explain the reason for my call- to give her a scripture that I thought God wanted her to have.

She then asked me what scripture. "Psalms 23," I replied.

She is well aware of that. However, I read it slowly to her word by word.

"The Lord is my Shepard I shall not want..." I read.

When I got to the part where it says, "... Ye though I walk through the shadow through the valley of death, I will fear no evil..."

She broke down and cried loudly. I was confused.

I waited for her to calm down. Then I asked what was going on.

"I am facing a dangerous surgery. I fear that I might die."

"I prayed to God to let me know that I wasn't going to die," she replied.

God made me call and tell her she would be okay through the scripture I read.

God said that He would use the foolish to confront the wise.

It seemed foolish to me. However, God's plan is always wise.

I implore you to respond "YES" when He calls.

I miss you and all the moments we shared, talking about God, singing karaoke, our church duets, and hanging out. You were a great friend that God sent me and a blessing to my life. Until we meet again!
